Cyber Range Engineer

We are looking for a Cyber Range Engineer to architect, deploy, and maintain cloud-based cyber ranges and training environments. In this role, you will design and implement scalable, realistic infrastructure that emulates enterprise environments across multiple cloud platforms.

Working closely with security researchers and training specialists, you will build the technical foundation that enables high-fidelity cybersecurity simulations and exercises. You will play a key role in ensuring that cyber ranges provide authentic cloud experiences while maintaining strong isolation, monitoring capabilities, security, and resource efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain local and cloud-based cyber range architectures supporting multiple concurrent training scenarios and user sessions.
• Develop automation frameworks for the rapid deployment, teardown, and reset of range environments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
• Create emulated cloud services and resources when direct cloud integration is not feasible or cost-effective.
• Implement and maintain security controls and network isolation to prevent range escape and resource abuse.
• Develop expertise in SimSpace software and provide technical guidance and documentation for a variety of use cases.
• Develop and maintain documentation covering range architectures, deployment procedures, troubleshooting processes, and technical configurations.
• Collaborate with security researchers, training specialists, and other technical stakeholders to support realistic and reliable cybersecurity training environments.
• Travel occasionally to customer or partner locations, estimated at approximately 10%, as required.

Qualifications

To be successful as a Cyber Range Engineer, you should have:

• Strong networking knowledge, including:
  • Virtual networking architecture and segmentation, including subnets and routing.
  • Network security and access controls, including firewalls, security groups, and NACLs.
  • Secure connectivity solutions, including VPNs and direct connectivity solutions.
  • A networking engineering certification is a plus.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools; experience with Puppet and Ansible is a plus.
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and virtual machine deployment.
• Experience working with cloud platforms and cloud-based technologies.
• Familiarity with VMware and NSX-T is a plus.
• Familiarity with enterprise IT architectures and common business applications.
• Familiarity with monitoring and logging solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and debug complex infrastructure issues.
• Excellent technical documentation and communication skills.
• Strong customer interaction and collaboration skills.
• Knowledge of security concepts and best practices for isolated environments.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
