Senior Accountant

Job Description

As a Senior Accountant with our team in Costa Rica, you will play a key role in managing end-to-end accounting, tax, treasury, payroll, and accounts payable functions. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, you will also lead and mentor a team of accountants, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
This role requires a strong technical background, leadership capabilities, and the ability to work in a dynamic, multinational setting.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight

• Oversee preparation and review of financial statements and reports
• Ensure compliance with local and international accounting standards (IFRS)
• Review journal entries, reconciliations, and closing processes
• Deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
• Perform financial analysis and provide actionable insights

Tax and Treasury Management

• Ensure compliance with tax obligations and support tax planning
• Oversee cash flow management and forecasting
• Coordinate tax filings and monitor tax risks

Payroll and Accounts Payable

• Supervise payroll processing and ensure compliance
• Oversee accounts payable and vendor management
• Ensure proper controls over payments and disbursements

Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accountants
• Conduct performance reviews and provide continuous feedback
• Allocate workload and ensure team efficiency

Compliance and Controls

• Ensure adherence to internal policies and client requirements
• Strengthen internal controls and improve processes
• Support internal and external audits

Client Management

• Act as a key point of contact for clients
• Ensure high-quality service delivery and timely communication
• Collaborate with internal teams for integrated solutions

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities for efficiency and system optimization
• Support implementation of accounting tools and systems
• Maintain proper documentation of processes

Mandatory Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• CPI (Certified Public Accountant in Costa Rica)
• 6+ years of experience in full accounting cycle
• Strong experience in tax compliance, treasury, payroll, and financial reporting (IFRS)
• In-depth knowledge of Costa Rican accounting regulations
• Experience in multinational environments
• Proficiency in QuickBooks and Zoho (NetSuite is a plus)
• Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills
• Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to lead and develop accounting teams

Desired Profile

• Experience in Free Trade Zone accounting and reporting
• Advanced tax studies
• Strong communication skills in English and Spanish
